Welcome to the Bellingham Surgery Website

Bellingham Practice

We are one of the most rural practices in England covering 800 square miles from the Scottish borders north of Byrness and Kielder to Kirkwhelpington and Barrasford to the south. We have over 3300 patients, many living in remote farming locations across the practice.

The surgery in Bellingham was purpose-built in 1984, we then had  extension to this that was completed at the end of 2010.

In response to the coronavirus situation we have now moved to a total triage system – this is to minimise the spread of the virus to vulnerable patients and staff.

GP surgeries do not have the facilities to diagnose or treat this infection so please stay at home (self isolate) for 7 days if you have :

  1. A new continuous cough
  2. High temperature (37.8 degrees C or higher)

  3. Contact with someone known to have Coronavirus

Most fit and healthy people will recover from the virus reasonably quickly and without medical intervention. However, if during that isolation period you become very unwell please contact NHS111 who will arrange for you to be treated either in hospital at home.

We have removed face to face appointments from our online booking system and will be offering telephone appointments to all patients who want to see or speak to a GP in order to minimise the number of people circulating in our building.

All requests for appointments will now be triaged by telephone and we are in the process of contacting patients who already have a GP appointment booked to change this to a telephone appointment, wherever possible.

For patients who do need to be seen, GP appointments, based on clinical need, will be available each afternoon.

All routine appointments with Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants are being reviewed. Patients who do need to have urgent tests will be given a morning appointment.

The front door is now locked to prevent unauthorised access to the building – we are trying to avoid inadvertent contact with someone who may have Coronavirus which would lead to practice closure for deep cleaning.

Patients who have been triaged and given an appointment should ring the bell for admission.

Patients who have a high risk of infection will be advised to wait in their car for staff to call them into the surgery building.

All other patients should contact the surgery by telephone (01434 220203)

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.
