We are aware that some patients would like to have their secondary care with private providers. There are several providers available in our region, contact details are provided below. Our GPs are able to refer you if requested and as necessary. This list is not exhaustive, is entirely patient choice, and we are unable to recommend any particular provider.
As a practice we are increasingly aware that many patients are using private providers for their healthcare for a range of conditions from joint replacements, weight reducing surgery and assessment of conditions such as autism and ADHD. We appreciate that the reasons for this are multifactorial including the well publicised waiting lists within the NHS. If patients decide to opt for private care we would strongly encourage you to use a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered provider to provide a degree of assurance on the quality and safety of care that you will receive. However, we are seeing an increasing number of patients using non CQC registered providers, both in the UK and abroad, where the quality of care cannot be assured. Furthermore, some private providers are requesting patients approach their GP surgery for additional investigations and treatment. Unfortunately we are not able to provide this service, in part because the cost falls on the NHS and not the private provider but primarily because we cannot be clinically assured on the appropriateness of such investigations and treatment. It is therefore important that patients are aware that if they opt for private care there may be ongoing costs for their treatments, whether ongoing monitoring or prescriptions.
